Craziest Woman on the Internet Lives Here

Ultimate Blog Party 2009
It all started with an innocent little e-mail from Alli. 5 Minutes for Mom and One2One Network wanted to have to real life blogger parties to go with the Ultimate Blog Party going on all this week. Alli simply needed someone to host the party. I love having people over even if I do make myself (and my family) crazy with all the prep work I do beforehand. There was something about a singer coming to sing for us. How nice, I thought, so I quickly responded that I would be the hostess with the mostess.

Crikey. Oi. Loco.

I count the evening as a success because 1) we did live stream Leslie’s performance even if it wasn’t the way we were “supposed to” (I now understand why people are not so fond of Vista) and 2) everyone genuinely seemed to have a good time.

I wasn’t exactly the most gracious of hostesses. I made the guests set-up the food, open wine bottles, find ice on their own, help my daughter with her homework, get my son a drink, serve my kids cake, find the bathroom on their own and scrounge for serving utensils. That’s because I was busy playing technical director for the live streaming video and having a well concealed* but nonetheless huge nervous breakdown!

The following are the brave women who came to my house and in spite of my questionable mental state managed to have a great time:

Busy Mom

If you are so inclined, go show them some bloggy love and check out each of their sites!

Many thanks to Leslie Mills and Chris for performing for us! Y’all were such good sports about our most unprofessional set-up and technical snafus. And thank you for taking my son’s questions and neurosis in stride! Everyone went home with a copy of Leslie’s CD: Everlasting Road. If you leave a comment, you’ll be entered to win a copy of it, too! (Leave comment by Saturday, March 28, winner will be announced Sunday, March 29. You must use a valid e-mail to comment so that I can contact you. I can only ship to U.S. addresses.)

Thank you to Barbara Jones of One2One Network for being on Skype with us the whole evening, walking us through the process and for providing for our party! Barbara is hosting the 3rd IRL UBP party tomorrow night in NYC!

Thank you to 5 Minutes for Mom for the Ultimate Blog Party and allowing us to represent you last night!

Finally, thanks to Alli for keeping it together and making sure the guests were taken care of! You can include me in your crazy schemes anytime!

You can view Leslie’s performance and interview and the blog interview here. Pictures from the part on Flickr.

*at least, I think it was well concealed!

Let’s Party!

Ultimate Blog Party 2009

Here we go! Welcome 5 Minutes For Mom Ultimate Blog Party guests! I’m Malia, your co-hostess with the mostess along with Alli. TONIGHT we will be hostessing one of the three IRL (in real life) UBP (ultimate blog parties) with special musical guest Leslie Mills! We are tremendously excited about this and are hoping & praying that everything goes off without a hitch! Last night, the beautiful Heather of The Spohrs Are Multiplying hosted the California IRL UBP with Chris Mann! It was a riot! That Chris sure knows how to make the ladies swoon. We’ll be coming at you live at 8 pm CDT, click on this link to get to the live streaming video of the par-tay!

In addition to getting myself mixed up in crazy schemes like hosting blog parties, I blog here on a semi-regular basis about all sort of various and sundry things. There’s a lot about my kids, JBelle – 8 and GMan – 4. There are occassional recipes for Mouthwatering Mondays hosted by the fabulous Rachel. But mostly it’s just my random musings on life. (You’ll also see rare but brilliant posts from my amazing husband, DB!) And I am also the editor for the Wedded Bliss channel of And I just did my first ever guest post at WifeandMomof3! And I Twitter. Busy much, Malia? Just a bit!

Here’s what’s on my mind today. Clutter. There is too much clutter in our house. I know this but I’ve been made very much aware of it the past few days as I’ve attempted to get my home ready to host a party. We’re drowning in too much stuff! I would love to just have a Goodwill or Salvation Army truck back up to my door so I could chuck all the stuff we don’t use anymore into it and have them take it all away. As it is, I’ll have to box it up and take it over there myself but either way, something needs to be done about this!

I’m excited about meeting new people through this Ultimate Blog Party experience! I’m so glad you took the time to stop by, check out my humble blog and say hi! I wish I had something exciting like a giveaway but I’m not that cool…yet. It could happen, right?

My favorite biscuits

PhotobucketIt’s Mouthwatering Monday! I’m cheating a bit today. I didn’t make anything particularly mouthwatering last week. In fact, we struggled quite a bit with trying to help and support JBelle’s decision to be a vegetarian but not eat mac ‘n cheese or pb&j every day. It was  just one of those weeks where nothing seemed to appeal to her. I tried a new recipe, she didn’t like it (actually, I was pretty much the only one who did like it).  I made a pasta dish, she ate it but GMan didn’t and yesterday I threw the rest of it out because there was no way it was going to be consumed. Finally, this weekend a couple things actually went right! On Saturday, I picked up some Boca Burgers for her. She had one for dinner Saturday night and loved it! On Sunday, we had baked potatoes and salad, she liked that, too. Yay!

So onto the mouthwatering part…my girl Heather over at Home-Ec 101 has the best. biscuit. recipe. ever! I adore these biscuits and they’re easy to make, too. Because of the butter in the recipe, they don’t need additional butter on them, just slather them with your favorite jam or preserves or honey and try not to gulp it down in one bite (which will be hard because they are that good!)

doesn't that look delish?

Just click on the picture and it’ll take you to Home-Ec 101 for the recipe.

Gotta go…I just got a hankerin’ for biscuits!

No, one more thing….be sure to check in at The Diaper Diaries for this week’s 1 Cor. 7:5 challenge! It’s a fun one!

Vegetarian Chili: Mouthwatering Monday

PhotobucketMy girl Rachel over at From the Land of Monkeys & Princesses hosts Mouthwatering Mondays. It’s about posting an uber delish recipe to share with your readers and getting a little link love in return. I thought I’d share a little something I whipped up earlier this week. I forgot to photograph it, so you’ll just have to use your imaginations!

JBelle, our 8 year old, recently decided to become a vegetarian. We’ve been very supportive of her and I have been trying to find ways to make meals that we all can eat. We all like chili, so I decided to put together a vegetarian chili. It was a hit!

Here’s what I used:

  • 2 cans Bush’s pinto beans in mild chili sauce
  • 1 can Bush’s red beans in mild chili sauce
  • 1 can Bush’s seasoned black beans
  • 1 can mild Ro*tel
  • 1 large can crushed tomatoes
  • one small onion, finely chopped
  • about 1 T minced garlic
  • about 1 T chili powder

It’s simple to put together. I sauteed the onions and garlic in a bit of olive oil until soft. Then I put everything into a pot and simmered for a few hours on low. Voila!

It’s totally tonguegasmic!

Speaking of…this one’s for the married ladies in the house. See that 1 Cor 7:5 Challenge button over there to the right? Up a bit, right under the BlissDom ’09 button…yeah, that one! That’s something else I’ll be participating in…you might want to, too. 😉

Just Bunches

Some quick hits for this Thursday.

Vespers has started again, I’m so thankful!

Great new post up at MarriageHacks by Carrien.

Have you checked out the new Blissfully Domestic?

Have any of you tried out Google’s new browser, Chrome? I downloaded it…my favorite feature is the one click shortcut I was able to create for GMail. But I’m still getting used to Chrome’s features and nuances. Currently, I still like Firefox better. What do you think?

And finally, did you know you can get a box of just the bunches from Honey Bunches of Oats cereal? It’s appropriately named, Just Bunches and it’s fabulous! I think it’s a little overwhelming by itself but I love adding extra bunches to my Honey Bunches of Oats, giving my Cheerios a bit more kick and jazzing up my yogurt. Soon I’ll try in oatmeal. Answers for “Not a Meme”

First, I’ll address some of the answers that were said about me. Tanya & Lisa not only got my middle name right but they spelled it correctly, too! (I can’t even spell right sometimes!) Tanya was the only one to get my eye color right. Sheryl & Brenda both hit the nail on the head with the “desert island” question. I think Sheryl was the most correct on the “favorite thing to do” question, though Mack’s answer was a close second! The answers regarding “special talent” were interesting! Everyone correctly answered the “how did we meet”, “sibling” and “how many children” questions. For all intent and purposes, everyone answered the “favorite type of music” question correctly as well.

If you still want to play along, go here (don’t cheat!) My answers are “after the jump”.
